Homeopathic travel must-haves

There’s nothing worse than being away on holiday, and someone gets sick or injured

One of the things I love about homeopathy, is it’s easy to use, it’s affordable, pillules are small are light to carry around, and it can bring speedy healing!

If you’re heading away from home for a night or longer, these are the top 11 homeopathic remedies I recommend taking away with you. 30c potency is recommended for home prescribing and is suitable for the whole family - including babies, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and those taking other medications. One pellet/pillule is one dose, and applies to all ages.

These will see you through most Acute situations and allow you to get back to enjoying your holiday.

Acute remedy prescribing:

One pellet under the tongue, once every two - four hours for up to four doses in total.

Stop as soon as symptoms improve. If there is no change after four doses, change the remedy.

Homeopathic travel must-haves:

Rhus Tox

Think of this as the “rusty hinge” remedy - pains, stiffness and discomfort more noticeable on first moving, after rest, and better after continual movement.

Good for: Skin rashes that are blistery and itchy, chicken pox/shingles, dry, sore throat with bruised pain when speaking, arthritis, aches and pains, nausea which is worse lying down, painless diarrhoea.

Belladonna

This remedy relieves high fever of sudden onset with profuse sweating, and hypersensitivity to light and noise. Throbbing, pulsating headaches. The person may be irritable and wants to be left alone. Coughing spasms that begin with irritation and a tickling sensation. Cough worse lying in bed at night. Ear infections.

Aconitum napellus

This remedy relieves high fever of sudden onset, with a hot face and dry skin, especially after exposure to cold. Most useful in the first 24-48 hours of symptoms appearing. Cold-like symptoms - runny nose with clear discharge. Dry, croupy cough brought on after a chill. Cough disturbs sleep. The person may be anxious or panicky. Hot flushes and night sweats. Earaches, cystitis with sharp, tearing pains.

Arnica

Bruises, bumps and sprains. Useful after any trauma or accident. The first one to give if the patient insists “they are fine.” Shock, black eyes, boils and abscesses that haven’t fully formed, sore, bruised pains. Useful during and after labor too.

Nux Vom

A good remedy for over indulgence. Hangovers, feeling generally toxic, headaches from over indulgence (food/alcohol etc), nausea, irritability, headaches with tightness at the back of the head, poor sleep, muscle cramps.

Hypericum

Useful for any nerve type pain or accidents/injuries to nerve-rich areas such as fingers, toes etc. Shooting pains, puncture wounds, sciatica.

Apis

(from the honey bee) useful for allergic reactions, bites and stings, cystitis, fluid

retention, heat rash, hives, mumps and measles, nappy rash, sore throats, and sunburn. Stinging pains, puffy swellings, sensitivity to heat.

Arsenicum Album

Useful for anxiety, colds, stomach upsets (nausea and diarrhoea), anything with burning pains better for heat/warmth, (e.g sore throats better for warm drinks), dry, tickly coughs, hayfever, heartburn, mild to moderate depression, fever with craving for warmth, cystitis with burning pains.

Gelsemium

Great for ailments with a slow onset, anticipatory anxiety, dizziness, flu, headaches and migraines, labour pains, measles, painless diarrhoea. Extreme tiredness with aching muscles, droopiness (eyes/mental state). Excellent after viral illness for lingering fatigue and mild depression.

Hepar Sulph

The homeopathic antibiotic. Useful for abscesses, established colds, coughs, croup, earache, sore throats, tonsillitis, whooping cough etc. Yellow/green discharges, pains tend to be splinter-like and sharp. Styes/conjunctivitis with sticky yellow discharge. Smelly discharges. Sore throats with pain like a fishbone stuck in the throat.

Ledum

This is the best remedy for puncture wounds, whether it's from objects or insects. Also helps with deep, black bruising, joint pains and sprains. Excellent as the first remedy after tick bites and as a tetanus preventative after puncture wounds from rusty nails etc.

All of these remedies are available in the Helios Basic 36 Remedy Kit, I highly recommend this kit, it’s great value, has a handy travel case and a comprehensive, easy to follow remedy guide. You can purchase that here:
